A hard-to-find classic from the Reigning Sound catalog gets the reissue treatment it so badly deserves with this 15th anniversary repress of Home for Orphans, out everywhere this Friday!
Home for Orphans is the spiritual companion to Too Much Guitar (one of the band’s most famous outings). Recorded in the same sessions, the album shows the quieter side of Greg Cartwright’s (Oblivians, ’68 Comeback) masterful songwriting, channeling the dusty country/folk rock vibes of Gene Clark, Townes Van Zandt & Gram Parsons rather than the more wild-eyed garage rock he has become synonymous with through his career.
Recorded across his hometown of Memphis, the album was issued during Cartwright’s big move to his current residence in Asheville, NC, and it plays like a beautiful farewell to the city that so heavily inspired him.
